The event brought together Norwegian Ambassadors and Heads of Missions posted in Asia and the Pacific region. High-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo also attended the event. The participants met with a number of prominent Indian analysts, journalists and officials during the course of the two-day gathering.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome colleagues from all over the Asia-Pacific region, especially as we can showcase a brand new state-of-the-art Embassy here in New Delhi”, Ambassador Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg said in his inaugural speech.
The overall objective of the conference was for the participants to discuss the developments both in India and in the region at large and its implications for Norway. The participants also shared experiences and best practices from their varied diplomatic work in the Asia-Pacific region.
Among the prominent external guests were Indian Foreign Secretary Mr. Vijay Gokhale and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, who shared their views on global and regional developments and challenges.
Journalist and political analyst Mr. Mihir Swarup Sharma from the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) similarly shared his take on political and economic situation in India.
Political analyst Mr. Manoj Joshi from ORF and Diplomatic Editor Ms. Suhasini Haidar from The Hindu shared their insights on geo-political developments in the region, with a particular emphasis on the Chinese Belt and Road initiative.
Dr. Ajay Mathur. Director General, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), shared his views on the global climate challenge and its consequences for South Asia and the Himalaya region. Ms. Sabina Dewan from the Just Jobs Network gave a presentation on global economic development and trade policy.
