From Mumbai to Oslo with the speed of sound

In August, the annual Øya Music Festival took place in Oslo. This year, with Mohit Shandilya helping out at the mixing board. How did a sound engineer student from Mumbai end up at a festival in Oslo?

Mohit Shandilya is at the end of his sound engineer training at the Media Tribe – Institute of Sound Engineering & Music Production in Mumbai. Media Tribe is one of Kulturtanken (Arts for Young Audiences Norway) partners in India, and is constantly searching for more training opportunities for their students. Kulturtanken therefore applied for permission to create an internship position for a student from Mumbai to take part in a team with responsibility for the technical implementation of the Øya Festival.

The goal of the internship was to increase competence, professional development and practical experience in live sound production and assisting on stage during the festival. During his internship, Mohit got to work with high quality equipment, professional engineers and preparing the stage for world famous bands and artists like Lana Del Rey, Ryan Adams and The Pixies, among others.

This is part of the Øya International Program, which gives a unique possibility to team up with professionals from the music industry in other countries.

The internship is a scheme administered by Musikkutstyrsordningen (Music Equipment Scheme) in collaboration with Bright Group, the technical provider to Øyafestivalen.
