Norway assists Sierra Leone landslide victims

The Norwegian Government will provide five million Norwegian Kroner (672000 USD) towards the appeal by the International Red Cross to support the victims of the landslide that struck Sierra Leones capital Freetown on August 14.

The support will contribute to providing housing, food and clean water. More than five hundred people lost their lives in the flood, with over eight hundred still missing.

“Almost 6 thousand people, including one thousand children, are affected and need assistance. The Norwegian Government rapidly decided to provide support to help the victims of this devastating event.  It is important to try to prevent this from happening again", says Norway’s new Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Gunnar Holm
