One of the most important tasks for the Embassy is to maintain and expand the good relationship between our countries and citizens. Norway will continue its support and contributions to peace and economic development in this region. Egypt is a key partner in this regard.
Egypt is entering a new and exciting chapter with the natural gas discovery in the Mediterranean. This could provide new opportunities for increased cooperation and economic activity and employment in Egypt. Norway has more than 40 years of experience in the management and export of oil and natural gas resources, and has a mature and respected offshore industry. There is an increased interest by Norwegian partners for Egypt in this field.
Norway is a strong supporter of the United Nations. Like Egypt, we have provided one of the Secretary Generals of the UN. Trygve Lie was in fact the very first, after the United Nations established itself in New York in 1945. The late Boutros Boutros-Ghali was Secretary General as the UN celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1995.
The Government of Norway is led by Prime Minister Ms. Erna Solberg. In January 2019 the Government was enlarged and now consists of four parties, where we have a female Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance. Nine political parties are represented in the Norwegian Parliament.
