On Tuesday August 22nd and Wednesday August 23rd, Chairman of the Academic Affairs Council of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) Professor Yang Jiemian visited Oslo.

SIIS is a think tank focusing mainly on world politics, economics, foreign policy, and international security, and an important advisor to the Chinese government.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende had personally invited Professor Yang to visit Norway. One purpose was for him to address the annual meeting of all Heads of Missions in the Norwegian Foreign Service. The visit also served to promote further academic co-operation between Chinese and Norwegian researchers/institutions.

While in Oslo, Professor Yang met with Foreign Minister Brende and Secretary General Wegger Chr. Strømmen for tea at the Government Guesthouse. He also held a presentation for the Norwegian inter-ministerial China group, in addition to addressing the Heads of Missions. Professor Yang’s presentation focused mainly on China’s geopolitical role, including the Sino-American relationship.

The visit turned out to be very successful.
