May is not only the peak of spring for Norwegians, but also the month where we celebrate our Constitution on 17 May, with children’s parades, marching bands and ice cream. Due to the pandemic, many 17 May celebrations around the world will also this year be scaled down. We are therefore lucky to be in Shanghai, where the day can be celebrated the traditional way (with children’s parade, marching band and a lot of ice cream). 7th of May: Friday beer and quiz night
Klubb Norge invites to the monthly Friday beer and quiz night at Cotton’s, 132 Anting Road at 18.00. Free pizza is served.


15th of May: Klubb Norge’s celebration of Norway's National Day
Klubb Norge will host their annual celebration of Norway’s National Day on Saturday 15th of May at Emerald. The day will be celebrated in the traditional way with children's parade, marching band, food, ice cream, speeches and games.

Date and time: Saturday 15th of May, 11:00-16:00
Price: 100 RMB for adults, 50 RMB for children (below 16 years).
Sign-up by scanning the below QR-code. Include the number of participating adults and children and transfer correct amount through Wechat.

The deadline to sign up is 7th of May.


Norwegian Impression Photo Exhibition at Bund Centre

On the occasion of the Norwegian Constitution Day on 17th of May, the Consulate will partner up with the Bund Centre to present the Norwegian Impression Photo Exhibition 17th to 19th of May. The exhibition will be held in the Bund Centre’s lobby area, and will showcase Norway’s nature, modern society and Arctic areas, through photos taken by international photographers. The exhibition is open to everyone.


Inspire to Act – Nordic Talks and Trace Your Food Journey Open Day

The four Nordic Consulates General in Shanghai (Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden) are joining efforts to present the Nordic sustainable food project 2021. The project includes a Nordic Talks podcast program, where Chinese and Nordic food experts will share their insight on food transparency and traceabilities. It is an open day for the public, co-organized by Green Initiatives with lectures and a food fair. More details to come.


Norwegian mackerel recipes

From mid-May, the Norwegian Seafood Council is collaborating with recipe app Xiachufang to promote Norwegian mackerel. During the program period, you can learn more about Norwegian mackerel and find tasty and easy recipes on how to prepare the Norwegian mackerel at home. Check out the Xiachufang app from 17 May!


The Shanghai Consul General's Charity Gold Cup
NBA members are invited to form a Norway Team (4 Persons each team) to compete in the Shanghai Consul General’s Charity Golf Cup on May 28th at Lanhai International Golf Club, a private club located in Chongming Island in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Consul General's Charity Golf Cup will gather the diplomatic community, local authorities, the private sector, and golf enthusiasts in Shanghai around a charity golf day. The primary purpose is to raise money for the Heart to Heart fund, which provides corrective surgery of congenital heart defects (CHD) for Chinese children.

The Norway Team will be formed by four players, on first come first served basis. Country Teams will have branded golf carts and one hole with the country Flag, and special prize at award ceremony for the Country Team winner.

The Shanghai Consul General's Charity Golf Cup ticket holders are entitled to a player gift pack, a lunch box, eighteen holes with a cart, beverages, BBQ dinner, and an Award ceremony.

Consul General visit to Jiangsu


Consul General Ms. Lise Nordgaard had her first courtesy visit to Jiangsu 21-23. April. The Consul General met with the Vice-Governor Mr. Hui Jianlin and the Department of Commerce in Nanjing. As Jiangsu has the second highest GDP in China, and many Norwegian companies are located there, it was interesting to hear more about the industries, plans and policies of the province. The Consulate General has several concrete follow-up projects and look forward to returning soon. 


Consul General and Innovation Norway visit to Norwegian companies in Jiangsu
During the Consul General’s courtesy visit to Jiangsu, the Royal Norwegian Consulate General together with Innovation Norway, visited the factories of several key Norwegian businesses located in Jiangsu. The visits gave valuable insight into the growth potential of the Chinese market and challenges related to high workforce turnover due to a China moving up the value chain. In the evening a small reception for the companies was held in Suzhou. Norwegian Business Association China also participated. Thank you to DEFA, Norautron, Norsk Hydro, Kongsberg Automotive, Glamox and Øglænd System Group.


2021 Norway China Offshore Wind Seminar held in Shanghai

Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai co-hosted the 2021 Norway China Offshore Wind Seminar with China Wind Energy Association, Innovation Norway and Norwegian Energy Partners. Norwegian companies DNV, Equinor, Kongsberg Maritime, Offshore Heavy Transportation, Passer and Ulstein presented their smart solutions and knowledgeof the offshore wind market in China. The event was an excellent opportunity to share experiences and to identify potential  cooperation between Norwegian and Chinese companies.


The Munch Museum’s WeChat account opening ceremony in Shanghai

Saturday 24th of April, the Consulate supported Munch Museum’s WeChat account opening ceremony at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) in Shanghai. Several art directors in Shanghai attended and expressed great interest in Munch and the new Munch Museum in Oslo. Deputy Consul General Ms. Hedda Himle Skandsen spoke about the artist and the museum, and writer Han Bo gave a lecture about Munch's art and his influence on other artists around the world. Delicious Norwegian seafood was served, even some creatively designed “screaming” delicacies.



Country Day Tourism Promotion

On Tuesday 4 May, the Consulate had the pleasure to welcome a group of Chinese children aged between 6 and 10 years at the office. Torben, Consul and head of the Consulate’s Visa Section, gave an introduction to Norway and Norwegian culture. The children also got the chance to learn some useful phrases in Norwegian. To offer an example of Norwegian food, cinnamon buns were served.

The visit was an initiative by the Scandinavian Tourism Board and the Consulate, in collaboration with Shanghai Bamboo Garden International Travel Service, to remind the public about what Norway has to offer, while international travel is still restricted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.


CSR-tour to Laerdal Medical in Suzhou

On April 29th, NBA with the support from the Consulate and Laerdal Medical, co-hosted a half-day tour for their members to Laerdal Medical’s facilities in Suzhou, with the Consul General also attending. During the visit, guest speaker Heidi Furustøl from Ethical Trade Norway gave an introduction to the suggested Supply Chains Transparency Act and assessment models for CSR. Laerdal Medical shared their work on CSR and held a factory visit. The day ended with a barbeque.
