Newsletter August 2021

| Shanghai

We have not only had a warm summer in Shanghai, but also a windy and rainy one, as the typhoon In-Fa made its landfall to eastern China last week. A recent outbreak of Covid-19 in China has led to an uptick in cases in several provinces. We see varying levels of safety measures being implemented in several regions, also in Shanghai. The Consulate General would like to remind everyone to take their precautions, and to pay close attention to the regulations issued by Chinese authorities.

As we enter August, it means a new working year approaching for some, and a new school year for others. For the Consulate General it means more upcoming activities, that you can read about in the newsletter below.

Covid-19 update
We are seeing an uptick in Covid-19 cases in China. The recent outbreak, reported to have originated from an international flight arriving Nanjing, is said to be caused by the more contagious Delta variant. With several provinces reporting new local cases, some regions have been classified as medium or high-risk areas. As a result, travel restrictions and other local regulations can be implemented or changed, on very short notice. The Consulate General would like to encourage everyone to take precautions and pay close attention to the regulations issued by Chinese authorities.

Foreign students allowed to enter Norway from 1 August
The Government has decided that foreign students will be exempt from the restrictions on entry from 1 August. This means that foreign students who have been admitted to a study programme at a Norwegian school or higher education institution, will be able to come to Norway as planned.

Chinese students have not been able to enter Norway since the Government introduced stringent restrictions on entry with effect from 29 January 2021. The ease in the entry restrictions means that Chinese students going to Norway to study this autumn semester, can go as planned. The Consulate General in Shanghai has processed and issued granted student visas as normal, since the entry restrictions were eased.
