- Norway and China has common interests in closer cooperation within shipping, environmental technology and in the Arctic, among other things. Shanghai is vital for Norwegian maritime technology and knowledge, both in China and Asia, which makes the city an important arena for Norwegian industry and trade, said Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

Norway Day, arranged by Fudan University School of Management and BI Norwegian Business School, presented Norwegian culture, history and industries through a number of activities.
-There are many possibilities for closer cooperation between Norway and China within a number of areas. Education is like an engine realizing these opportunities since the students will increase their cultural understanding, knowledge and network – the very foundation of bilateral cooperation, said the Prime Minister.
Visit at DNV GL’s head office in Shanghai
DNV GL is the Norwegian company with the longest history in China, counting almost 130 years. Maritime technology, classification, clean energy and low emission buildings are arenas where DNV GL has global expertise.
-Climate and environment are core issues for Norway and I have followed the development of China’s climate policy during the last years with great interest, said the Prime Minister.
The Arctic
The Prime Minister attended also The Changing Arctic and Sino-Norwegian Collaboration; an event arranged by Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the Polar Research Institute of China. The Sino-Norwegian research collaboration on Arctic issues has been active since the 1990s. China has their own research station on Svalbard and there is close contact between the Norwegian and Chinese polar research institutes.
-China’s focus on the Arctic is increasing. This builds knowledge and competence on issues we know well in Norway. It is positive to have platforms of science and research cooperation to build on now when the bilateral relationship is normalized. The Government will do what it can to facilitate for even closer cooperation in this area in the future, said Solberg.
