Newsletter September 2021

| Shanghai

Entering September we enter the last days of the Chinese calendar’s 14th solar term, Chǔshǔ (处暑). Lasting from 23 August to 7 September, Chǔshǔ marks the end of the hot summer season. Still, recent hot days and a yellow heat alert from Shanghai’s local weather bureau, tells us that summer is not ready to let go of Shanghai just yet.

Last month’s outbreak of Covid-19 cases in China reminded us how quickly the pandemic can change the situation anywhere in the world. Fortunately, the situation is reported to slowly come under control with restrictions gradually eased. The Consulate General would like to remind everyone to continue to take their precautions, and to pay close attention to the regulations issued by Chinese authorities.

If you are a Norwegian citizen 18 years or older, you can also come by the Consulate until this Friday 3 September, to cast your vote (forhåndsstemme) for the Norwegian parliamentary and Sami parliamentary elections.

We wish you a great September. Godt valg!

23rd of September: Ladies Who Tech: Women in Shipping
The Consulate General will co-host the event Women in Shipping together with Ladies Who Tech 23 September. Women in the shipping and maritime industry will share their insights and experiences from an industry that has traditionally been male dominated.

Only about 16% of those working in the maritime industry today are women. Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries recently started the development of a new policy to improve the diversity and inclusion in the maritime industry. This will be a central topic during the event in Shanghai. Representants from Norwegian maritime companies such as Kongsberg Maritime, DNV, and Ulstein will provide their perspectives on how the sector can reach its full potential by utilizing the talents from the entire workforce.

If you are interested in more information about this event, you may contact Ge Lingfei by email: lingfei.ge@mfa.no .

Norwegian Red King Crab – from Norwegian Sea to Chef’s Table
