With October just around the corner, fall is slowly approaching Shanghai. 1 October also marks China’s National Day. It means a full week’s holiday for many, known as China’s Golden Week. The Consulate General will be closed from 29 September to 5 October.

Last month Klubb Norge organized a historical city walk about Norwegian’s who have lived in Shanghai, and a joyful Welcome Back party in DNV’s beautiful garden. It was great to see so many from the Norwegian community attending the events. Entering a new month, new activities are coming up that you will find in our newsletter below.

4 October | Suzhou Creek bike ride
Klubb Norge invites to bike ride along Shanghai's Suzhou Creek. The trip takes approximately 3.5 hours and is for all levels. The bike tour includes an English-speaking bike guide, bike and helmet, water, snacks and drinks. 

Max 15 participants. Signing up through Klubb Norge's Wechat.

7 October | Friday beer
Klubb Norge invites to the monthly Friday beer and quiz night at Cotton’s, 132 Anting Road at 18.00.


8-30 October | Born To Be Wild - Nordic photo exhibition

The three Nordic Consulate Generals in Shanghai of Denmark, Sweden and Norway invites to the photo exhibition Born To Be Wild – Biodiversity Through Lenses, 8-30 October. Held at Duoyun Books’ flagship store in Shanghai, the exhibition presents photos seen through the lenses of three Nordic award-winning wildlife photographers. Visitors can also attend educational activities about biodiversity and nature.

The exhibition is open for everyone.

24 October | Arctic Governance: New Missions and New Challenges
The Consulate General, in collaboration with Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) invites to an online seminar Arctic Governance: New Missions and New Challenges.

11 October | The Culture Map: From theory to practice
Norwegian Business Association China (NBA) invites to a workshop with discussions and exercises about how cultural differences can affect the workplace, including the introduction of the framework "The Culture Map".

14 October | Transforming business from the outside in
NBA invites to a seminar with Jacob Johansen from PwC's consultancy unite Strategy & in Shanghai, and author of the book From Customer To User. During the seminar, Jacob will share views on topics such as digitalization, branding, innovation, and strategy.

Norwegian Presence 2022 – A digital program for Design Shanghai

In collaboration with Design and Architecture Norway (DOGA), the Consulate General will at this year’s Design Shanghai host the digital exhibition “Norwegian Presence 2022”. The program includes both online and offline events showcasing Norwegian design and architecture in China. The theme of Norwegian Presence 2022 is Matters.

Seafood from Norway at China International Import Expo (CIIE)

The 5th CIIE in November is soon approaching. The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), supported by the Consulate General, is looking forward to representing the Norwegian seafood industry at this year’s CIIE. Eight Norwegian seafood companies will be official participants at the “Seafood from Norway” booth.

There are also other Norwegian companies attending CIIE, and the Consulate will as always visit all Norwegian booths.

Visit to Shanghai History Museum

Last month, the Consulate General visited Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism at Shanghai History Museum. They discussed how to enhance the cultural cooperation between Norway and Shanghai and how to attract more tourists between our two countries.

The Consulate General looks forward to welcoming artists, cultural institutions and tourists coming from China to Norway, and we hope to visit the Shanghai History Museum again soon.

PS: If you visit the Shanghai history museum, make sure to see the museum’s beautiful wedding sedan chair.


Renewal of Memorandum of Understanding Oslo - Shanghai

13 September Raymond Johansen, Governing Mayor of Oslo and Ming Zong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai met online to renew Oslo and Shanghai’s Memorandum of Understanding as sister cities. With Oslo’s openings of the new MUNCH Museum and the National Museum this year, Norway’s capital has even more attractions to offer Chinese visitors.


Opening ceremony of Yara Digital Hub in Shanghai

The Consulate attended the opening ceremony of the new Yara Digital Hub in Shanghai 9 September. Companies such as Yara plays an important role in ensuring enough nutritious food and ending hunger globally. The Consulate General looks forward to following the achievements of the new Yara Digital Hub and to continue our cooperation.


Visit to VFS Global Visa Application Center (VAC) in Shanghai

Are you in need of a visa to Norway? Hand in your application to the VFS Global Visa Application Center (VAC) in Shanghai. VFS provide the onsite services to Chinese applicants of Schengen visas and residence permits. Note that we also have agreements with VAC centers in Hangzhou and Nanjing. The Consulate General’s new Consul on visa and migration Maja Nwosu, visited the VFS Global Visa Application Center (VAC) in Shanghai 31 August.
