The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has come to an end, and we congratulate all athletes. Both Norway and China did their best Winter Olympics ever. The Norwegian community in Shanghai gathered on several occasions to follow the games. We now prepare for the Paralympics, which kicks off 4 March, this Friday.

March is a busy month for the Consulate General with many events, such as film screenings and a breakfast seminar marking the International Women’s Day, 8th of March. Read on for more events and information.

PS! We would like to remind you of the travel app from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reiseklar, which can now be downloaded via App Store and Google Play. The app gives Norwegian citizens easy access to travel information, travel advice and travel registration. We encourage all Norwegians living or travelling abroad to register!

2nd of March: New visa application center opening in Nanjing
A new Norwegian visa application center will open in Nanjing on 2 March. With the new center, the Consulate will be able to provide better service for our Jiangsu-based visa applicants, who will no longer need to travel to Shanghai to hand in their travel documents.

Klubb Norge invites to the monthly Friday beer at Cotton’s, 132 Anting Road at 18.00.


8th of March: Women’s Day breakfast panel

The Consulate is supporting several events during the “International Women’s Week”.  In the actual day, 8th, we will have a breakfast panel where Therese Trulsen from Wikborg Rein, Bianca Yin from Organizational & Leadership Development Coach and Ellen Wu from Manulife-Sinochem Life Co will discuss social impact and gender equality.

9th of March: Women’s Day film screening – Løvekvinnen

Green Initiative, supported by the Norwegian Consulate in Shanghai, will on the occasion of International Women’s Day organise a film screening of the movie Løvekvinnen. Adapted from the novel "Løvekvinnen" (The Lion Woman) by Erik Fosnes Hansen, we follow the life of Eva, a girl born with hypertrichosis, a congenital condition that causes excessive hair growth over her entire body.

14th of March: NBA China Annal Director’s Dinner in Shanghai
Norwegian Business Association (NBA) China will hold their annual director's dinner on Monday 14 March. The evening includes an informal discussion on NBA's future work based on last year’s performance.

21st - 22nd of March: Norway-Jiangsu Offshore Wind Seminar in Nantong
Norway-Jiangsu Offshore Wind Seminar takes place in Nantong 21-22 March. The two-day program is co-hosted by the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, supported by Innovation Norway and Nantong Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

The city of Nantong has a coastline of 210 kilometers. It has great wind power resources and has the biggest offshore wind farm in Asia. Representatives from high-profile Norwegian offshore wind companies, Chinese shipyards, Jiangsu Provincial Government, local Nantong Municipal leaders, main offshore wind investors and service providers in Jiangsu will be present. There will also be field trips to Submarine Cable Company ZTT Group, Huaneng Qidong Offshore Wind Farm and ZPMC Qidong Shipyard.

The event is by invitation only.


24th of March: Sonja, The White Swan film screeningAs part of “Women Film Month” we invite to the film screening of Sonja: The White Swan at American Culture Centre in Shanghai. The movie from 2018 tells the story about Norwegian figure skater and film star Sonja Henie, one of the world's greatest athletes and referred to as the inventor of modern figure skating. The evening will also entail a talk about the culture of Norwegian winter sports and lifestyle.

24th of March: Norway-Zhejiang Greentech Seminar in Hangzhou
A Norway-Zhejiang Greentech Seminar will take place in Hangzhou 24 March. Six Norwegian companies will present their technologies, and Innovation Norway together with Zhejiang Department of Science & Technology will sign an MoU.

The collaboration between Norway and Zhejiang will provide a unique chance to promote Norwegian green technologies as China is moving towards greener solutions and carbon neutrality.

29th of March: Annual General Meeting 2022
The Norwegian Business Association China invites its members to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 29 March. It is planned to be both physically in Shanghai, and online for those unable to meet. At the AGM the Annual Report of 2021 will be approved, including the statement of accounts. New board of directors and chairperson will be elected and voting regarding potential changes to NBA's articles of association.

31st of March: Women in Finance seminar
The Norwegian and British Consulate Generals in Shanghai will co-host a cross-border dialogue on improving the ratio of women on boards and top management positions in the financial sector. The event is open to business professionals and investors interested in ESG and gender equality in the finance industry.

4th Global Growth China Greentech now open for sign-up

Innovation Norway together with Jiangsu Province invites Norwegian companies to join the Global Growth China Greentech Program for the 4th time. Since 2019, the collaboration between Norway and Jiangsu Province has resulted in a variety of projects and opportunities for Norwegian companies.

Team Norway delegation visit to Hangzhou Zhejiang Province

Meeting with Vice Governor of Zhejiang25 February Consul General Lise Nordgaard made a courtesy visit to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province where she met with Vice Governor of Zhejiang, Mr. Zhu Congjiu. Head of Innovation Norway in China, Rolf Almklov and China Director of Norwegian Seafood Council, Andreas Thorud also joined the visit. Among the topics discussed were green energy and maritime industries, gender equality, trade, and cultural activities including winter sports, all important priority areas for Norway.

Meeting with Alibaba in Hangzhou
24 February, the delegation met with Alibaba. Representatives from several parts of Alibaba presented some of the group’s key businesses, including the B2C supermarket Freshhippo, and the B2B logistic solutions of Cainiao. During the meeting, future opportunities of collaborations between the Consulate General and Alibaba were discussed, within areas such as technology and innovation, gender equality and sustainability.

Meeting with Skogstad and Rainpower25 February, the delegation visited the two companies Skogstad and Rainpower in Hangzhou. The family business and clothing brand Skogstad started their production in China in 1997. Rainpower, with their hydropower technology, has contributed to sustainable solutions in both Norway and China.


Norwegian Winter Market in Shanghai26-27 February, the first ever Norwegian winter market took place at the Bund Financial Center in Shanghai. In connection with the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games, the Norwegian winter sports and lifestyle market was co-organized by Team Norway. The market gathered a great number of renowned Norwegian brands, Norwegian furniture design, consumer products, seafood and beverages. There was also a treasure hunt which kids participated in. More than 1000 people visited the market, and the opening was livestreamed. It was nice to see so many in the Norwegian community visiting as well.

Jiangnan Green Shipping Day in Shanghai
On the occasion of the delivery of the second PCTC (Pure car, truck carrier) vessel for Norway-based United European Car Carriers (UECC), the Jiangnan Green Shipping Day was arranged 28 February at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. The event was organized by Innovation Norway and supported by Consulate General in Shanghai and Norwegian Business Association China. The day included a tour of the shipyard and the vessel, and an industrial seminar “Bridging the New Green Era with Innovation and Technology - Decarbonization in Green Shipping”.


Norwegian film screening <Tvillingsong> at Fosun Arts Centre in Shanghai

Despite of cold weather, the Tvillingsong film screening had a full house at the Fosun Arts Centre in Shanghai on Saturday 19 February. The documentary is directed by Norwegian artist Anne Tveit Knutsen and tells the story about the twins Eli and Toril, both born with developmental disabilities. The screening was followed by a discussion with director Tveit Knutsen.

Receiving “little diplomats” at the Consulate imagek5ysp.pnglittle diplomat 2.jpg11 February, 19 Chinese schoolchildren visited the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai. It was part of the program “Little Diplomats” organized by the travel agency Shanghai Bamboo Garden International Travel Service. The Consulate gave a presentation on how Norway is a great family travel destination. The presentation was received with great excitement among the children, as the Beijing Winter Olympics was taking place at the same time.
