Newsletter December 2022

| Shanghai

Greetings from the Consul General:

Dear Norwegians in Shanghai and neighboring provinces,

We are now entering December, the last month of the year. We are getting ready for Christmas – for most of us, the most important celebration of the year. Some of us are fortunate to be able to go home to Norway for Christmas, while many of us will stay in China. I hope that either way, everyone will be able to enjoy their Christmas holidays, wherever you are.

Getting close to the end of the year, this is also time for reflection. For the Consulate in Shanghai, this has indeed been a special year, or as we often refer to in Norwegian, an "interesting" year, meaning a very different year. The two-month lockdown in Shanghai this spring was challenging to all of us. It was historic and unprecedented - and hopefully only a once-in-a-lifetime experience. To me, I was encouraged by the strong support and solidarity within the Norwegian community. It was an exceptional exercise of coming togetherness – or "dugnad" as we say in Norwegian. I would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone for your support and contributions during a very demanding time.

The numbers of covid cases in China, also here in Shanghai, are now on the rise. We have recently published information to the Norwegian community:  https://www.norway.no/en/china/norway-china/news-and-events/shanghai-news-and-events/news/informasjon-til-nordmenn/

I look forward to working for and together with you in 2023 to promote Norway and Norwegian interests in China.

On behalf of all colleagues at the Consulate in Shanghai, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Lise Nordgaard

Consul General
