The Embassy welcomes new Honorary Consul in Auckland

The Embassy is very pleased to welcome Ms Christina Riisnes as our new Honorary Consul in Auckland. Ms Riisnes takes over the role after Capt. John Robinson who retired late last year after almost 12 years’ service as the Norwegian Consul.

The role of Norway’s Honorary Consul includes assisting with consular affairs and helping to facilitate development of business, cultural, and educational relations between Norway and New Zealand. In addition to her role as a Consul, Ms Riisnes is also an active member of The New Zealand Scandinavian Business Association (NZSBA).

Ms Riisnes was born in Norway. She was raised in Bergen where she attended Bergen Handelsgymnasium before studying Master’s in law at the University of Bergen. She later studied LLM Commercial Law at the University of Auckland. Her leisure interests include culture, skiing (especially cross-country skiing), hiking, cooking and NZ wine.

When asked about her new role, Ms Riisnes answered: “I’m truly honoured and grateful for the opportunity to represent and serve my home country, Norway, and Norwegians in my new home, New Zealand. I’m committed to and passionate about leveraging the strong and distinctive cultural and commercial linkages between my two homes and promoting Norwegian interests here in New Zealand.”
