Passport appointments at the Embassy in Canberra and Honorary Consulates in Australia and New Zealand

As Australia and New Zealand gradually re-open their international borders, many residents are looking forward to again be able to travel. Unfortunately, due to the COVID restrictions we have seen during the last two years, many Norwegian citizens have not been able to renew their passports. The Embassy is therefore experiencing a very high demand for appointments. So, if you are planning to travel, please check the validity of your passport early to ensure you will be able to renew your passport in time for your travel. Please also remember to check the validity of your children’s passports.

Due to mandatory biometric data capture, all applications for passport must be lodged in person at the Embassy in Canberra. All appointments must be booked online through our online booking portal. New appointments become available in the portal on a daily basis two months in advance. Thus, it is not possible to book an appointment more than two months in advance.

For information about the application process, including required documentation, processing time etc., please see our article Applying for passport - Norway in Australia.

Due to the distances many applicants have to travel to come to the Embassy, we are hoping to travel once a year to several states to receive applications locally. For 2022, we are tentatively planning the following passport visits:

Perth: 16, 18 & 19 May

Melbourne: 15, 16 & 17 June

New Zealand: early September

Brisbane: early October

Adelaide: early November

If you wish to book an appointment to submit an application for passport, personal number, retention of citizenship or notification to get back Norwegian citizenship at one of the above Consulates, please contact the Consulate directly to register your interest. The Consulate will then contact you once exact dates have been set for the visit.

Please note that the Embassy will be closed for passport appointments during the interstate visits.

Alternatively, all applicants may apply in Norway or at another Norwegian Embassy abroad.
