Changes to applications for ordinary Norwegian passports for children

As of May 1st, 2021, applications for ordinary Norwegian passports for children can no longer be lodged at the honorary consulates in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. From this date onward, all such applications must be lodged at the Norwegian Embassy in Canberra.

In 2020, changes were made in the Act and regulation governing the issuance of Norwegian passports with the overarching goal to strengthen the ID control. Consequently, as of May 1st, 2021 honorary consulates may no longer receive applications for ordinary Norwegian passports for children. Honorary consulates will still be able to receive applications for emergency passports as before.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware that some families from May 1st onward will have to apply for an emergency passport at an honorary consulate to travel to a foreign service mission in order to apply for an ordinary passport there.
