17th May is the Norwegian National Day. Normally this is the day when everyone is invited and the entire country is dressed up for parades to celebrate the constitution. This year is again different - no giant parades or major events at home or abroad -but here in Athens, proud members of the Norwegian community gathered in Plaka and embraced the “bunad”, the traditional costume and sartorial emblem of the day - in all its glory!

For Greeks, coming from a country with an equally long and important heritage of national costumes, it is easy to relate and marvel at these intricate dresses. But there’s more than meets the eye and in this video you will discover an annual tradition that is difficult to explain in few words:
