Did you know

... that lump sum grants may be awarded if you don't qualify for parental benefits?

If you give birth or adopt a child, yet do not qualify for parental benefit, you may still be entitled to a lump sum grant (engangsstønad). You must be registered as a member of the National Insurance Scheme in Norway. A grant is awarded per child, and at present, the amount is NOK 35 263. For more information contact your local NAV office. A booklet entitled "The rights of parents of small children" also outlines the conditions for lump sum grants.
