New rules for ID checks
If you are a newcomer to Norway, you will need to meet in person at a designated tax office when applying for a tax deduction card, or to register your address with authorities in Norway.
These procedures come into force as of 1 February 2012.

Kriseinfo.no is launched
Kriseinfo.no will provide valid and secure information to the general public before, during and after a crisis.
The web site will present updated and coordinated information from relevant Norwegian authorities and emergency organisations.

To contact the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten), you can call their telephone enquiry service on telephone number: 800 80 000, or from abroad (+47) 22 07 70 00 between 8 am and 3.30 pm (Norwegian time). Your call will be answered by an automatic answering service, dial or press 9 to be put through to the Tax Administration’s enquiry desk that answers questions in English.
As well as answering questions about taxation, the Norwegian Tax Administration is also responsible for the National Population Register. For example, they can help you with questions about Norwegian personal identity numbers, D-numbers, birth certificates and verification certificates for the right to get married in Norway.

Marriages entered outside Norway, are NOT valid if:
- either of the couple are younger than 18 years of age
- the marriage is entered into without both parties being physically present at the ceremony
- either of the couple are already married
At least one of the persons to be wed must be a Norwegian citizen or registered as a resident of Norway.
